A Love Letter to Loathing That Totally Wins You Over
Goddamn Wolves have delivered a jangly indie-rock gem in “I Hate This Song” and ironically, it’s incredibly easy to love. With a title that teases cynicism,moody without being melodramatic, punchy yet polished, and bursting with that rare kind of honesty that hits you right in the gut.
This track feels like a band at peak cohesion. The layered harmonies between Laura and Chris are magnetic, trading grit and sweetness in perfect measure. Underneath it all, Drew’s drumming drives the song forward with a taut intensity, never overpowering but always urgent. There’s a kind of emotional push-pull happening here, part anthem, part inner monologue that gives the song its charm.
What’s striking is how much “I Hate This Song” doesn’t try too hard. It’s confident in its structure, lean in production, and smart in its use of dynamics. The result is a tune that feels like it stumbled out of a garage and straight onto a stage, messy in all the right ways.
With this release, Goddamn Wolves prove that indie rock is still very much alive and snarling. If this is what musical frustration sounds like, we’re here for every second of it.
